WIRE LOOP AND HOW TO PRODUCE WIRE LOOP IT IN MICROBIOLOGY LABORATORY

This is straight wire usually circle of approximately 1.5mm and 3mm made up of platinum or nichrome wire with handle which is use for picking colony from culture.
Nichrome wire is generally adopted for making wire loop because it is cheaper, elastic and cool faster compared to platinum wire. The wire loop must be renewing time to time. Now there are commercially disposable plastic wire loop available in the market and they are widely used in medical lab now are days. Wire can also be made in the laboratory by the lab scientists, bellow are the procedure for making wire loop in the laboratory;

WIRE LOOP
Cut wire approximately 10cm, and must be platinum or nichrome wire.
Wind the wire once round a metal rod of appropriate diameter.
With a pair scissors cut one aim at the wire junction
Bend back the wire loop to centre it

Insert into a metal wire holder.

STERILIZATION OF WIRE LOOP
Hold the loop in the Bunsen flame in a vertical position till red hot bring it out and allowed it to cool

WAY OF STERILIZING WIRE LOOP

 before using commence, and remember that you must sterilized your wire loop in each of colony you pick or in each of any sample you pick with it.
